Renewal Period and Open Enrollment
All Californians can sign up during open enrollment, which begins Oct. 15, 2019, and continues through Jan. 31, 2020. Many others may be eligible to sign up at any time during the year due to a life-changing event such as getting married, having a child or moving. Medi-Cal enrollment is year-round, as well.

Tax Penalty Cost:
In 2020, the annual penalty is the greater of:
- $695 for each adult and $347.50 for each child, at least $2,000 per family.
- 2.5 percent of the tax filer’s annual household income minus the federal tax-filing threshold.
